BOTOX 101

What to expect at your first appointment

Forehead, crows feet, frown lines… you’ve been noticing those lines for a while, but now you’re ready to treat them! Or maybe you just want to get some more info about ways to treat them. So what do you do next?

First, LET’S TALK BOTOX!

Botox (& Dysport) are FDA-approved injections that help us make strong muscles “sleepy”. Reducing the strength of some of our most commonly used muscles can help both improve and prevent wrinkles. These products can be used in various locations across the face such as:

  • Glabella (also known as your 11s) and across the forehead (to treat horizontal lines)

  • Around the eye for crow’s feet and jelly rolls (undereye bulge)

  • On the nose for bunny lines

  • Upper lip to correct a gummy smile (also referred to as a “Lip Flip”)

  • DAO’s (frown lines)

  • In the mentalis to correct a dimply chin

  • Masseter muscles (TMJ, grinding, and facial slimming)

Additional benefits of toxin in these areas can include smoother makeup application, reduced pore size, brow lift, and less squinting during smiling.

Now let’s talk COST

Typically you are charged per unit, & the number of units needed is determined by many factors. This includes: what areas you’re wanting to treat, how strong your muscles are, your anatomy & more. So how do you find out how many units you need?

BOOK A CONSULTATION

You will want to schedule a consultation with a provider that you trust. Our providers, Amanda Boatwright MSN, FNP-C & Lindsey Pinnon RN, BSN are highly trained injectors with a passion for aesthetics. It is essential that you know your provider’s background & credentials before allowing them to perform a treatment on you.

Before you come to the appointment, be prepared to answer some questions!

What bothers you? What do you wish you could change? What’s your budget?

We want you to have realistic expectations for your appointment (small steps to achieve big results!) but don’t be afraid to ask anything! Although you may have visited our office for a Botox consult/treatment, we are always happy to talk about any service that could get you one step closer to your desired results. Consults at West Em are always complimentary with no obligations, although same day treatment is available if desired.

What Does it Feel Like?

During the treatment, it’s perfectly normal to feel nervous! It can be unnerving to try something new, but we will walk you through each step of the process. Toxin is extremely well tolerated in most patients. We offer several nerve distracting techniques to make the process as seamless as possible.

POST CARE

In order to have the best possible results we ask that you follow some simple post care following your injections. For the rest of the day post injection you should avoid:

  • vigorous exercise or long walks

  • touching or massaging injected areas

  • any air travel

  • wearing hats

  • washing or blow-drying your hair

  • hot showers

For the first 4-6 hours following treatment you should avoid:

  • Lying down, massages, and/or leaning back with your head back

  • Vacuuming, unloading the dishwasher, or any activity that requires you to look down for an extended period of time

How Long Do Results Last?

Results kick in fully after 14 days and ideally will last 3-4 months. Dose equals duration! Trusting your injector to help you select the right dose is important in determining the length of your results.

We always offer to pre-book your next appointment to keep you on a regular schedule with your treatments (like going to the dentist)!
